Environmental Stewardship

Our locations put us on the Mighty Mississippi River and near the Atchafalaya Basin. South Louisiana’s diverse and unique ecosystem is the source of our food, our livelihoods, our recreation, and our way of life. It is up to all of us to exhibit the care that is required to be good stewards of the land, air and water.

Our technologically advanced high capacity cranes emit 62% less VOC’s than older cranes. Additionally, the benefit is compounded because the cranes do more work in less time, requiring less run time which creates even less emissions…our environment can breathe a little easier.

St. James incorporates a “Zero Spill” policy in our stevedoring work. Spillage can be an environmental issue and can cut into the profitability of our customers. One of the ways St. James addresses this is that  our crane buckets are bowl shaped with covers and are outfitted with seals which reduce the potential for spillage. Further, our employees are trained to spot spillage as it occurs and eliminate it. Again, a compounding benefit…less environmental impact, less product  loss for the customer.
